October Theme: “Monsters in Disguise”

Halloween is all about costumes and transformation — a time when people (and maybe even creatures!) get to become something new for one magical night. This month’s art challenge invites you to create a piece that explores “Monsters in Disguise.”

Maybe you imagine a vampire dressed as a ballerina, a werewolf trying to pass as a mailman, or a ghost blending in at a costume party. Your monster could be silly, spooky, or even sympathetic — hiding in plain sight while the world celebrates Halloween around them.

Think about how costumes, masks, and the playful spirit of the season can inspire your design. Does the disguise succeed, or does something unexpected happen when the mask slips?

Every month brings a fresh theme and a new opportunity to push your creativity. This October, show us your vision of “Monsters in Disguise.”

📌 How It Works

Age Groups:
- 6–8 years
- 9–12 years
- 13–17 years
  (Additional age brackets may be created based on the number of submissions.)
Format:
- Digital uploads of your artwork (photos or scans).
- Accepted formats: Most image, video, and doc formats plus pdfs.

💰 Entry & Fundraising Options

Contest Entry Fee: $5 — qualifies you for prizes and official judging in your age group.
Fundraiser-Only Option: Submit artwork to be included in our end-of-month art book and raise funds without entering the contest.
- Book Sales Fundraiser:
  - Each artist whose work is included will receive a unique purchase link to share with family and friends.
  - Artists keep 50% of the profits from sales made through their link.
  - Remaining funds support the educational goals of local families through SJHC.
  - Starting in January, SJHC members (including free members) can apply for these funds to support educational resources and activities.

🏆 Prizes

First Place in Each Age Group: Wins 50% of that group’s total entry fees as a cash prize.
Publication Perk: Winning and non-winning artworks (with permission) will appear in the month’s art book.

📋 Judging Criteria

Artworks will be judged based on:

Creativity & originality
Expression of the theme “The Day Everything Changed”
Technique & craftsmanship
Age-appropriate style and presentation
